Cail Compass

John Cail started work in the early 1820's for Troughton. He opened his own business and traded at
2 New Bridge Street (1823-37);
44 Northumberland Street (1838-39);
61 Pilgrim Street (1841-53) ;
45 Quay Street (1841-53);
8 Grey Street(1853-55) ;
21 Grey Street (1855-58); all in Newcastle-on-Tyne.
Cail instruments are of high quality and scarce and this compass was made prior to 1858.

This compass is extremely well made and even the hinges have been  constructed and hidden inside the case and lid.
