Troughton and Simms Compass

This is a beautiful 3 3/4" brass compass mounted in a pearwood case. The compass and case are in excellent condition.

I couldn't identify the wood but an expert has advised that it is turned pear wood.

In all of my WWW surfing I have not found any other compasses like this.

The glass lid is able to turn to allow the needle to be locked for transport.

Circa 1840.
