"According to Gurley records all of the trade mark logo engravings were done by Myron King ( 1801 - 1877 ), who was a very skilled artist and had been engraving instruments for decades.
Myron King had a characteristic in his engravings which is easily identified. King would put a swish above the " N.Y." which was supposed to be a continuation of the " Y " in Troy. This makes pre 1876 Gurley instruments pretty easy to pick out when the engraving was done by King"
The compass face of this instrument is typical of the examples shown on P 89 of this book.
