 Artificial Horizon by Elliott Bros

This artificial horizon was presented " To George Anthony Warleigh on Dec 9th 1865 for progress in the use of instruments HMS Britannia"

The instrument is housed in the original mahogany carry box with steel mercury bottle and funnel , cast trough and glazed pitched cover.

Weight 3.45 kg

HMS Britannia was a 120 gun first rate ship of the line launched in 1820. She was a training ship after 1859 and broken up in 1869.( Wikipedia)

George Anthony Warleigh had a long and established career in the Royal Navy and his records have been able to be searched through Navy and other Records which are attached in the slide show.

One of the things that I love with this hobby is to be able to trace provenance of some of the articles in my collection.
